Newswise reports on a small study looking at craving reduction in people with methamphetamine habits when using the antidepressant bupropion and when not.
"The research team hypothesizes that bupropion reduces the effects of methamphetamine by preventing the drug from entering brain cells, where methamphetamine can produce release of neurotransmitters that cause feelings of euphoria."

Join Together reports "Illinois is poised to adopt new legislation that would tighten sales of medications that can be used to manufacture illicit methamphetamine, the Abington Argus reported Nov. 12. The state Senate passed a bill restricting sales of cold medicines and other drugs containing pseudoephedrine and sent it on to Gov. Rod Blagojevich. The measure, which would require buyers to sign a logbook and present ID, previously was approved by the state House. It brings Illinois law into line with similar measures adopted in neighboring states, like Iowa and Missouri.
The Daily Herald (of Everett, Washington, USA) published an article indicating "Cold and allergy sufferers may have trouble finding the medicine they seek at the corner market next year. Starting Jan. 1, some owners of minimarkets in the state are expected to stop selling popular medications such as Sudafed, Actifed and Claritin because a new state law requires them to log each sale and obtain the signature of every buyer."

CESAR, the Center for Substance Abuse Research at the University of Maryland has put together a compilation of their informational reports from the past few years for methamphetamine. The compiled reports are available as a single PDF file (which was updated 2006.oct.19). The file includes information on treatment, prevalence of use, whether it is a national epidemic and the myth of the “meth baby.”
States neighboring those that have passed laws cracking down on methamphetamine and the chemicals used to make the drug are facing an influx of displaced meth-makers, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Oct. 10.
